Lying about drinking

QuickCode : drinking

I lie to my friends all the time about drinking. I make up excuses not to drink: I need to be up early the next morning, I'm driving, I don't like to drink in big groups, etc. I tell them that I drink whenever I'm with friends from out of town, or on vacation with other friends, but in fact, I barely drink at all. If they found out that I was lying, they would think it's because I'm afraid to be caught, but it's really because my dad is an alcoholic, and I don't want to be anything like him. I've grown up not to depend on anyone or anything but myself, and I don't want to depend on what he depended on. I would rather my closest friends thought I was uncool than unable to tell them my secrets.

wow i think that you are an amazingly strong person and that if your friends cant accept the reason why you chose not to drink then they dont deserve to be your friends in the first place. i think what you just said shows EXTREMELY strong character and self-esteem for yourself. your a really good person, dont let your friends peer pressure ever get the best of you

I am an outsider too. I used to drink for fun with friends, until the love of my life became an alcoholic and I experienced the loneliness that plagues those who love the alcoholic. Now I almost never drink. Stay strong and don't be afraid to tell your friends the real reason. It may make them think twice about what they are pressuring each other to do. I have immense respect for you and wish my boyfriend had learned from his father's mistakes as you have yours.
