You do know that 'Poor spelling and (poor) grammar' are two different things, right? So, your sentence should have read 'Poor spelling and grammar PISS me off so much! Good grief, folks, get a dictionary!'

I think it's hilarious that even those who gripe about things get it wrong. Good effort though!

When I was in middle school, my friends and I would pass notes during class. I would always correct the grammar, spelling, and punctuation on their notes before I would write them back! What now REALLY drives me crazy is when I find mistakes in books, magazines, or newspapers. These people write for a living and actually get paid for it!!

I think part of the spelling problems stem from so many (very) young people posting here...they are the kids of the text message generation, who are used to writing with the fewest letters possible...

Many times poor spellings are merely typographical errors. Not everyone took typing in high school (or Jr. High?)

It is comforting to bask in the security of our knowledge of spelling and grammer. But, consider this... The way we speak and write is not the same as what people did 100 years ago. Not even 50 years ago.

Language is constantly evolving. Perhaps keeping this in mind will make the next spelling or grammatical error one sees more bearable next time.

I agree!!! A few of my more recent and scary experiences: (1) My son's third grade teacher spelled 'grammar' with and "e" ... 'grammEr'. (2) She also spelled 'Martial Arts' like 'Marshal Arts'. So when basic mistakes like that are happening with the teachers who shold know better, how much hope is there for the students?

As a teenager, I get so upset to see the kind of writing on sites like this. It takes almost no time at all to look over what you've just written, and if you won't bother to read it twice, it can't be worth typing, can it?

I am also a grammar Nazi. If I have to reread something just to understand what it says, it just pisses me off. This "chat speak" is just annoying and it makes the writer look like an illiterate child. Come on people, use your common sense! And maybe a dictionary.

This is not your university entry essay so spelling errors are not the end of the world. I think it's quite interesting to see how people spell in different slangs because, in a way, it reflects the way people are and the way they speak. Besides, shortcuts are faster to write. So after all how dumb could it be that you're just trying to save your precious time?.. If you can't read it, well guess what! Don't read it!
Also, you, obviously, have no idea how much fun it could be to misspell words.
Most people who use a lot of shortcuts are teenagers. Yeah, WE'RE kids-most of us aren't even out of school yet so we're allowed to make mistakes.
How about when you find grammar AND spelling mistakes in formal pieces of writing? Why don't you tell THEM to get a dictionary. I'll give you a better one yet. In most INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS (obviously where english is not their first language) they put up signs that say 'persons' instead of 'people'!
