Going Home

I would love to go home and see him waiting for me, so happy to be near me. He would hug me close and hard, and I could hug him back and smile at the same time. We could smoke cigarettes outside on the porch, and he would smell like himself and I would smell like coconuts and the air would smell like cold and smoke.

He would sit so so so close to me and I would be nervous and happy when I could hear him breathing.

And inside when I get cold he would lend me a sweatshirt and I would take it home and it would smell like him.

Late one night he would come to see me and I would hear the snow crunching under his feet up the stairs. We would watch a movie, or bake some cookies, or build a snowman. And on the bridge by the creek he might kiss me and I might smile so the hot breath slid out between my teeth and floated like smoke to the sky.
