I Love Arguing With My Fiance

My poor fiance is one of the most sensitive, sweet men I have ever met. Unfortunately, I am a really, really big b**ch. I like to argue, and I like to win. A lot. And I almost always win, because he's too sweet and usually gives up and apologizes... even when he was right and I was wrong. I wish I could stop, see that the argument is pointless, and quit before he gets hurt. But I seem to get some stupid enjoyment out of it - not out of hurting him, so much as the very act of arguing to win. And the making up.

One day, I'll probably drive him away. I know that, and it hurts, but I know that if he leaves he could do better than me anyway.

It sounds like a case of winning the battle but losing the war.

So basically, you'd rather win a few insignificant battles and lose the entire war because you thought those battles made you feel good. Nice plan, excellent logic and tactical planning. Sounds like you're well on the road to ending a good relationship.

He is probably attracted to your vitality and fire. Try letting him win an argument once in awhile - particularly when he is right. It can be empowering to be able to gracefully admit defeat.
