I know exactly how you feel, and my advice to you is just keep waiting. I didn't and I lost the guy I loved for 5 years who had, like yours, moved away (7 states, actually). I slept with his friend thinking I had no chance with him, then 6 months later he informed me that he'd liked me the whole time, but couldn't get over what i'd done.
My advice is don't end up like me.

I'd say why not try it? I'm in love with this guy who ive been dating for a year and a half. This summer I moved not just cities or states away, but an ocean away and yet we still manage to keep a great relationship going and I don't know how it's possible but each time I talk to him I love him even more.
