Im not really sure why Im scared of dating but I have idea

I do like someone who I've known a year and 1/2 and seems very wonderful. I turned him down twice now because I was waiting for someone who never came back. Now I've let him go, I'm still scared.
I'm scared that "he" will finally want me back when I'm happy with someone else and I may end up hurting the someone else in the end. I'm scared I may have become a commitment-phobe even though all I want to do is fall in love again. And when I find someone I want to KNOW that they really want me, but if I wait for them to prove that, I may lose the chance. I may seem ok on the outside with everything, but really I'm scared sh*tless.
