I like to think of it this way, which is why I'm not with my daughters' father.
When she gets older, I never want her to stay in a relationship where there is no love, or it's stagnated or whatever. I want her to seek out her happiness because I want the absolute best for her. I don't want her to look up to me her whole life and think "well, my mom just grinned and beared it, I will too" I want her to think "My Mom worked hard to love her own life to show me that I need to love my own."
Don't you want the absolute best for your kids? If you're leading them by example, you should want the absolute best for yourself, so they'll know how to hold themselves to a high standard.
