My girlfriend's father

This isn't an intense secret, it is just one that nags at me. My Girlfriend's father treats her like she is 7 years old and not good enough (she is almost 19). Her parents think they know her, bu they don't. They have NEVER told her they are proud of her. They treat her older and younger sisters like they do everything right and never give my girlfriend any approval. My girlfriend is so amazing, she is so held back by her family, i have encouraged her to speak for herself, and share her thoughtful and good opinions, and they get frustrated with her because she sticks up for herself. I find my self trying not to hate them, but intensely disliking her parents and wanting nothing but to take her away from them. If we try to confront them, they don't listen and don't change...I don't think they love us.

They love her - that's why they treat her like that - its a reflection of the panic in their hearts that a daughter might not be making the decisions that will afford her the opportunities that they want her to have.
Your resentment is understandable - it sounds like they are doing more damage than any flaws (real or imagined) in your girlfriend's judgement are likely to do.

did i write this? sounds exactly like how my wife was before we got married. she stood up for herself and in the end her parents realized what they had done and apologized for everything. Just keep encouraging her and always make sure she knows you love her. trust me, that part helps
