should i push or should i wait?

i went out with this guy and i still really like him, we met up over the weekend and brought a friend so it wouldnt be too awkward. we got along as we did before, probably even better, but we were really hesitant on saying hello and goodbye. we spoke on the phone later on that night.. and we discussed it, we had both decided that we like each other probably more than what we did previously.. but then theres the catch, hes going into the Army a few months time, and he says that although he likes me he doesnt think that i can handle it. but i told him that i can and that i would not leave his side.. but he seems firm on his choice and we both know that it would put a strain on the relationship. but surely that is what would make it stronger? but do i push him or do i let it go and see if he changes his mind??
please someone help me!!
